Dealing with pet loss grief
Coping with the sudden loss of a pet can be very difficult. The bond that we share with our pets is like no other so when we lose that relationship, we are faced with the reality of the hole their passing leaves with us.
Here we will examine:
1. Why we feel this way
2. How we cope and move forward after a pet loss
The bond we share with our pets is unique and like no other relationship we have. We open our home and hearts to our pets, and they weave their way into so much of our lives. They shower us with unconditional love, free from judgement, complications or expectations. They live in the moment, forgive freely and are loyal to no end. We become their everything and what an amazing feeling to have a creature love you like that.
But sadly, their lives are short and they never live long enough for all the love that we have for them. By their very natural existence their days are limited right from the very start.
They are man’s best friend for a reason but once they are gone, we are left with a deep hole and a ton of love with no physical being to give it to.
There are ways to cope with pet loss. Some great suggestions are:
*Acknowledge that your grief is valid and allow yourself to feel all what you feel.
*Rest, grief is exhausting, both physically and mentally.
*Take care of yourself, eat healthy meals and exercise.
*Ask for help and find people that understand what you are feeling so you can talk about your loss, share your feelings without judgement and share stories of your pet. This helps you understand that you are not alone in grief.
*Take the time you need, everyone grieves differently and at their own pace. There is no timeline for grief.
*Honor the relationship you had with your pet and find a way to memorialize that. Your relationship was unique, special and valuable. Find a way to celebrate that friendship that fits your needs within your budget.
*Remember that the love you shared with your pet lasts forever inside your heart, so they will always be with you.
The extremely deep feelings of pet loss are real and anyone who has loss a pet will tell you, it is a tough road to transition through. Remember that you are not alone in that. Pets are special! Feel their love within you even when they are gone. There is warmth within the memories. The love you shared is a gift that you never will lose and that is something worth celebrating!
