Hi! I am Cherilynn Wood, artist, picture framer, dog lover and nature inspired.
I have always loved the creative arts, music, literature and the visual arts all were a driving force in my early years, be it listening to Pink Floyd in my brother’s bedroom, reading a book in the sunporch or drawing illustrations for my latest children’s book write, I definitely loved the arts!
It wasn’t until high school that I realized my true passion and deep love for watercolor. From the very first moment I picked up a brush in art class, I was hooked! There is something so magical in its luminosity that seems to fit so well with depicting nature’s energy and life force.
That spark of passion has grown into a lifelong obsession with the medium. The very nature of watercolor excites me, the flow of pigment mixing with water, being in and out of control at the same time. The energy within each brushstroke. It is that energy that drives each pet portrait, flower or wildlife animal I paint. The natural world around us is amazing and depicting life through watercolor only accentuates its natural beauty.
While in art school, I found a job at a local frame shop across town, What I thought would be a way to preserve and protect my own artwork turned into so much more than that. A passion to preserve all treasures, family photos, artwork and personal mementos blossomed. It was a family owned and operated small shop with people who had twenty and thirty years in the industry. Under their guidance and expertise, I learned all aspects of the business and grew to love the detailed craftsmanship of the trade. Being able to take a stick of moulding and turn it into an object made to house and protect a one-of-a-kind treasured piece for years to come is exhilarating. Picture framing became a professional career for over 27 years, one which allowed me the privilege of framing many great works of art. Within that time frame I handled some of the great Masters of Art from Rembrandt, Pissarro, Grandma Moses, Degas, Picasso and Warhol. As well as modern well-known artist like Rashid Johnson, Joel Ross, Nick Cave, Jeff Koons and Kiki Smith. It was an honor and such a privilege each time one crossed my framing table.
But the truth of my framing career, which still stands true today, it doesn’t matter if it is a Picasso, someone’s photo of their mother, or some children’s artwork, each piece of art I frame is a treasure to someone and valuable to them. It is an honor and a privilege to paint your pet’s portrait or create a frame to hold your child’s latest drawing, or family photo.
